The Gammage Cup, Carol Kendall

The Gammage CupThe Gammage Cup by Carol Kendall
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I read this book at about age 11 or 12 and it helped shape my understanding and attraction to society’s outcasts. Perhaps it urged me always to think outside the box and to live most of my life in unconventional, but personally shaped, ways. I am not surprised to learn that J.K. Rowling “borrowed” the character Muggles from this book. I am sorry that The Gammage Cup is not read nearly as widely as the seemingly derivative Harry Potter is. Please turn your children onto The Gammage Cup. I chose this edition to review because the others all play off the current preoccupation with over-the-top special effects in filming fantasy. This cover is exactly as I recall the Minnipins and their village.
