This happened to us in San Biagio Platani when my cousins took us to a restaurant owned by my cousin's sister in law. It was course after course after course, ending with a sumptuous lamb dish, and finally with the most gorgeous fruits and pastries! Jugs of wine too. By the end of the evening, and this meal didn't begin until 10:00 PM, I thought that I would burst! Love it Camille! We had a similar experience when we stayed in a small town, just north of Venice, called Roncade. We stayed in a castle and the owner, who was known only as "The Barone", insisted we follow him to a special restaurant which served wine from the family's vineyard. As Primo in the "The Big Night" said ....."To eat good food is to be close to God". I too, grew up on italian greens. I often remember my grandmother making us stop the car so she could pick wild cardoons growing on the side of the road .... a bold move in the wilds of NJ. Ciao, Rick Great article.
