Great article. We had a similar experience when we stayed in a small town, just north of Venice, called Roncade. We stayed in a castle and the owner, who was known only as "The Barone", insisted we follow him to a special restaurant which served wine from the family's vineyard. As Primo in the "The Big Night" said ....."To eat good food is to be close to God".

I too, grew up on italian greens. I often remember my grandmother making us stop the car so she could pick wild cardoons growing on the side of the road .... a bold move in the wilds of NJ.

Ciao, Rick
